Attorney: Man who fatally stabs girlfriend, attacks parents has mental health issues
A Massachusetts man accused of murdering his girlfriend and stabbing his parents in a restaurant was arraigned from his hospital bed in Milford Monday.
Millis Police said Benjamin Walsh, 24, stabbed his parents in the abdomen at Primavera Restaurant Saturday. Relatives subdued Walsh until police arrived.
Police said Walsh, who began to sob as he heard details of the assault, fatally stabbed his girlfriend, Olivia Bergstrom, 20, nearly 30 times at their Needham apartment prior to arriving at the restaurant. Police found her dead in the apartment during a well-being check.
"I think that anything that may have happened, it appears to be related to a significant mental health issue," Defense Attorney Randall Powers said.
According to the Millis police report, Walsh was combative during the arrest and shouted, "I'm going to kill everyone."
Walsh's father, Michael Walsh, has been released from the hospital. Laura Walsh is in critical condition at a Boston Hospital.
Walsh is being treated for a hand injury and undergoing a psychological evaluation.
