Police in Portsmouth responded to a rollover accident Friday afternoon that sent two people to the hospital.

Officers were dispatched to West Main Road at Corys Lane at about 12:20 p.m.

Police said when they arrived on scene, they found a 2015 Toyota Scion, operated by a 35-year-old man, and a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe, operated by a 63-year-old man.

Authorities said both vehicles were traveling northbound when the accident happened.

"The Scion was in the left lane and swerved into the right lane because there was another vehicle in front of it, attempting to turn left onto Corys Lane," said police in a press release.

The driver of the Santa Fe then swerved into the embankment to avoid crashing into the Scion. As a result, it rolled over.

Portsmouth police said the accident also caused a utility pole to snap, leaving live wires hanging in the street.

Both drivers were transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
