Police: Woonsocket High School student found with gun, ammunition
A Woonsocket High School student was found carrying a gun on school grounds Thursday morning, according to authorities.
Police told NBC 10 News that a 14-year-old was arrested and taken into custody. He is facing multiple charges, including possession of a firearm on school grounds, possession of a firearm by minors, license required to carry pistol and possession of ammunition by a minor.
Police said a school staff member alerted a school resource officer after someone saw the teen with a gun around 11:30 a.m.
The officer located the student and found an unloaded pistol, as well as ammunition, in his backpack.
No threats were made, said police.
The student, who was not identified due to his age, was being held overnight at the state Training School.
A hearing is scheduled for Friday morning in Family Court.
School was in session Friday.
