Providence club loses 'all licenses' following shooting
A night club in Providence is now permanently closed, according to the City of Providence.
"All licenses for Club Ultra have been revoked," Ben Smith told NBC 10 News via email Friday.
The news comes after a 22-year-old man was shot inside Ultra the Night Club in September.
The club took to Facebook Friday to thank their customers for their patronage, saying, "Over the years we have appreciated your business, and thank you for your loyalty!"
They also shared a statement, saying in part, "we are very sympathetic for the victims of the incident that occurred on September 28th."
However, the club expressed their disappointment with the city's criticism.
"That it is why the severe criticism that we have received, stating we, Ultra, house nothing but criminals are so disheartening. There is only one person to blame, the individual that has committed this gross and negligent act."
The club's management team also noted that the closure has not only had a financial burden on them, but also to surrounding businesses.
"Ramifications of this incident have been far reaching, touching the lives of many, first and foremost the patron that was injured, but also affecting the livelihood of the staff that has been out of work, the surrounding restaurants and parking lots, that have lost patronage and income," according to the post.
Ultra had been closed since the shooting.
