Providence police are looking for a man who stabbed a restaurant employee on Federal Hill as he was trying to break up a fight between the restaurant's owner and a customer.

Police said officers responded to Lucia's Mexican Restaurante on Atwells Avenue at about 11:18 p.m. Sunday.

Police said witnesses told them that a man, who was banned from the restaurant for previously causing trouble when he drank too much, tried to order a beer on Sunday night. The witnesses said he was denied a drink and then a verbal argument ensued.

Investigators said as the argument escalated the suspect, Jorge Morales, pulled out a knife and tried to stab owner Orellana Morales.

Police said 24-year-old Edgar Morales, a cook, was stabbed in the upper part of his chest when he tried to separate the two. Edgar Morales was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Jorge Morales ran away from the scene and has not been caught.
