Two Saunderstown residents were arrested on Tuesday after dozens of animals were found in distress over the weekend.

Ciara Cunningham and Salvatore Carfora were both charged with unnecessary cruelty to animals.

Over fifty animals were rescued on a farm in North Kingstown over the weekend after responding to a domestic incident.

The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals President Wayne Keziran told NBC 10 a truck allegedly ran over one goat and one horse was so emaciated, they were forced to euthanize it.

Kerziran said RISPCA is caring for 11 goats and 10 horses, while 10 dogs were taken to an animal shelter.

The RISPCA will be looking for immediate foster placements for these animals, according to Kerziran.

The incident remains under investigation.
