Route 6/10 Connector work begins Saturday

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is warning drivers to plan ahead for delays and detours on the Route 6/10 Connector in Providence.

RIDOT is putting traffic pattern changes in place Saturday night. The work was delayed from Friday because of heavy rain in the forecast.

The Broadway off-ramp from Route 6 east into Providence will close. The suggested detour is to get off at Hartford Avenue and follow signs to Broadway. The detour will be in place for two years.

Other necessary lane shifts will last about a year. RIDOT said the work can't wait due to decades of neglect.

The Route 6/10 Connector reconstruction project is on track for completion in fall 2023, and as of now it's sticking to its $410 million budget.
