One dead, another injured in highway crash

A crash “with serious injuries” caused heavy traffic on Interstate 95 south Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, according to Rhode Island State Police. (WJAR)

One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 95 south Friday night, according to Rhode Island State Police.

Authorities said the crash occurred near exit 5 in West Greenwich near the weigh station around 8:40 p.m.

“Traffic is restricted to one lane,” state police noted in a tweet. “Use caution while traveling through that area.”

Drivers told NBC 10 News there were long delays.

“Waze estimates it to be a 74 minute delay,” a viewer tweeted at NBC 10 around 9:35 p.m.

By 11 p.m., the Rhode Island Department of Transportation said the crash was cleared.

The person who was hurt was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. His or her condition wasn't immediately known.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
