Rhode Island State Police said Thursday that a task force seized about two pounds of pure fentanyl and arrested a 52-year-old Providence man on drug trafficking and fugitive charges.

Jesus Ramos was ordered held without bail at his arraignment in Providence District Court on multiple drug delivery and possession counts. He was also charged as a fugitive from Massachusetts, where he's wanted on drug and gun charges.

State police said the drugs had a street value of $30,000 to $35,000. Troopers also seized heroin, drug presses and other paraphernalia from Ramos's apartment.

"The arrest stemmed from an investigation into reports that Ramos allegedly fled from Massachusetts in violation of the terms of his release on bail while awaiting trial on numerous felony drug and weapons charges in that state," state police said in a news release.

State police said their investigation determined Ramos was staying in a basement apartment at 102 Ford St., which was searched Wednesday morning.

Ramos's next court appearance was scheduled for July 5.
