Suspect in Taunton machete attack ordered held
A Taunton man accused of attacking a woman and a dog with a machete was ordered held Wednesday pending his next court appearance.
Thomas Vargus, 45, appeared in a Taunton District Court for a dangerousness hearing.
He was brought back to Massachusetts from Pennsylvania, where authorities said he fled after the attack.
Police said Vargus went on the run after stabbing his brother's girlfriend and her pit bull, King, on Church Street on Sept. 18.
Vargus 45, was charged last week with animal cruelty and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Vargus's next court appearance is scheduled for December.
