Trey Flowers, the Patriots player, had the honor Tuesday of releasing Trey, the harbor seal, into the Atlantic Ocean.

The seal was rescued in Rockaway, New York, late last year and nursed back to health at Mystic Aquarium's Animal Rescue Clinic. At the time, Trey weighed 30 pounds and had injuries to his flippers, neck and belly.

Trey was so-named because the Animal Rescue Clinic felt it would be fitting to honor the New England Patriots in creative way following the team's historic Super Bowl win.

Trey, the football player, said he was honored.

Now fully recovered, Trey, the harbor seal, weighs about 48 pounds and is prepared for life at sea.

The seal was released on Blue Shutter Beach in Charlestown.
