Two Taunton schools closed Tuesday due to threat, police say
Taunton High School and Parker Middle School in Taunton will be closed Tuesday as authorities investigate a threat, according to police.
"A note was found by a THS employee at the close of school today," Superintendent of Schools Julie Hackett noted in a letter sent to the school community Monday, adding that the administration immediately contacted police.
"It was determined that the anonymous and threatening note warrants further investigation, prompting the cancellation of school tomorrow."
Police Chief Edward Walsh said the department is actively investigating the threat.
"At this time, the investigation of this incident is active and ongoing," Walsh said.
Meanwhile, Hackett noted that there won’t be practices or other after-school activities for either school.
"All other schools in the Taunton Public School district will have a regularly scheduled school day tomorrow," according to the release.
Students in both schools will have to make up the missed class time. For high-schoolers, half days scheduled during finals will be full days.
If you have information about the threat, call police at 508-824-7522.
