WARWICK, R.I., (WJAR) — St. Patrick’s Day might be a good excuse to don an overly green wardrobe and maybe claim a distant Irish heritage, but not to drive drunk.
The Warwick Police Department is actually offering to drive residents home this Saturday who feel they have had one too many Guinness pints.
For the fifth year in a row, the department is rolling out the Safe Rides Program where volunteer drivers will escort bar patrons home for free.
By calling 401-468-4200 between 6 p.m. to midnight on Saturday March 16, patrons will receive a free ride home anywhere within the City of Warwick.
The effort is an attempt to curb drunk driving and injuries caused by DUI-related crashes.
