Water main break in Lincoln repaired
A water main break in Lincoln was repaired Thursday morning, and Route 126 was reopened to traffic.
National Grid said the water main on River Road broke at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday. A crew hit an unmarked water line while investigating a natural gas leak.
The gas leak was also repaired.
Water shot about 30 feet into the air and kept running for several hours. Crews said frozen valves complicated efforts to shut it off.
The Lincoln Water Department said about 1,500 gallons of water per minute was flowing out of the pipe.
Police said 3 to 4 feet of water flooded the basements of two homes on Bradford Drive. Other homes had water service shut off.
