Lincoln Chafee says he's not running for office
Lincoln Chafee, former U.S. senator, Rhode Island governor and Warwick mayor, said Tuesday that won't be running for office in 2018.
"Two of my favorite sayings are, 'Fortune favors the bold' and 'Discretion is the better part of valor.' The latter is true as to my plans. I will not be seeking elective office in 2018," Chafee said.
Chafee earlier this year floated the idea of challenging Democratic incumbent Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse in a primary.
His announcement was unexpected, and he told "10 News Conference" in April that the reaction was "way better than I expected."
But after taking some time to think about a campaign, he has decided against it.
Chafee also ran a brief campaign for president in 2015.
