Hendricken’s Truss receiving national attention
It's hard to miss Bishop Hendricken junior Xavier Truss, who is an offensive tackle for the high school's football team.
The 6 feet 7 inches tall, 325 pound all-stater has quickly launched into the national recruiting spotlight, thanks to a solid performance at the Army All American Combine in January.
“It’s pretty crazy going from no offers and then going to that combine in January and then after that everything started to roll it’s pretty crazy feeling,” said Truss.
The four-star recruit started the year without any offers. But now, just a couple months in, he has 28, including all of the national powerhouse programs.
“Like, my top offers are Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan and there’s many more,” said Truss.
He also told NBC 10 News his visit to the defending champs Alabama was special.
“That was insane. The whole time I was there, I couldn’t even believe it. It was surreal. To sit down with Coach Sabin and talk to him and all the other staff was a great experience,” said Truss.
His jump into the national spotlight might affect most 17 year old athletes, but not for the West Warwick native, who remains grounded.
“I just have everyone reminding me to stay humble. It’s an overwhelming process,” he said. “It’s really crazy.”
So, now is the hard part, decision-making time. Truss can either make his decision early in December or on national signing day in February of 2019.
