URI Rams roll into Alabama after big win over PC
The University of Rhode Island Rams are red hot coming off a recent in-state victory over Providence College.
Next up -- a top 25 team from last week Alabama down in Tuscaloosa on Wednesday night.
“You know, you want to get that type of respect get out on the court and perform at a high-level against elite level players. If you want to make a name for yourself, really, in the landscape of college basketball go out there on Wednesday night and outplay those guys,” said URI Head Coach Dan Hurley.
URI freshman guard Fatts Russel has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for his performance over the last week and as soon as I told his teammates about it. It instantly brought a smile to their faces.
“He could miss five shots and make one. He just thinks that every shot will go in pretty much that’s how Fatts always is in practice, video games and in real practice,” said URI Forward Andre Berry.
“Every time he steps on the court, he knows he’s the best player on the court. So, whatever he’s thinking I just hope he keeps thinking it because he’s doing real well and he’s got a lot of big things coming,” said URI guard Stanford Robinson.
“He’s a talented kid, he’s a humble kid, he has a great smile, he’s charismatic, and has a personality. He just kind of lights up rooms,” said Hurley.
As for E.C. Matthews, he is continuing to rehab his fractured wrist.
“We have an ignored him since he’s gotten hurt but I think we’ve done a much better job this time around Compartmentalizing his injury, but that will change when we get back from this trip. He will be cleared for full contact shortly after we get back,” said Hurley.
Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
