Patriots Nation responds to reports of rift
Patriots Nation responded Friday to reports of trouble brewing at the top of the football team.
ESPN reported that tensions are rising among the three men who have made the New England Patriots a success, citing the release of Jimmy Garappolo and aspects of the TB12 Method as examples.
NBC 10 News asked the tough question of fans in Foxborough: If this was indeed true and you absolutely had to pick between Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, who would you choose?
"Oh, it'd be Bill," said one fan.
"I love Brady. He's been in this organization for a long time. Hopefully, he sticks around for a couple of more years. But in Bill we trust," said another.
"In Bill we trust" was an overwhelming response to the question of loyalty if it came down to the one-yard line.
"Oh, absolutely with Bill," said a fan.
"Brady is at the end of his career anyways," said another fan. "We're going with Bill."
ESPN reported Friday that there is a growing rift between the Brady, Belichick, and owner Robert Kraft.
"I think it's crazy. I think the three of them built a dynasty and that they're three of the most selfless people in sports. Brady, I think, cares the least about anything superficial … and I think Bill's the same way," said Caitlin Swindlehurst of Walpole.
But many fans punted on the idea the report is true.
"I don't believe it," said one man. "Too much success over the years. That's stupid to throw it away"
"I just don't think it's accurate. I think they are getting people excited for playoff season, and try and start the drama," said another fan.
The Patriots released a joint statement from Kraft, Belichick and Brady, denying the reports.
"It is unfortunate that there is even a need for us to respond to these fallacies. As our actions have shown, we stand united," the statement said.
