EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WJAR) -- This week's Golden Apple Award goes to Robert Petrucci, a teacher at East Greenwich High School.
Petrucci was nominated by a fellow educator, Brendan Carniaux.
Carniaux wrote that Petrucci is a social studies teacher. He is also the head coach of the softball team, which has earned multiple-time state championships, and is also the head of the drama club and trusted mentor, as well.
“Somebody's in big trouble,” Petrucci said after learning Carniaux, nominated him.
When NBC 10 arrived to presented him the award, Petrucci was surrounded by students and co-workers, as well as loved ones.
Even his daughter made an appearance all the way from England.
"Oh, my daughter’s here but she's on Facebook.” He said. “Hi!”
They said Petrucci is E.G. High School.
“He's all around a great man and just makes learning fun,” one students said.
Petrucci is also all about teaching important lessons, including gun and marijuana policy and genocide. No matter the topic or situation, he’s devoted to his school.
"It means the world to me -- 20 years in and I still love doing it, so I can't really imagine doing anything else,” Petrucci said.
