Golden Apple: Providence teacher breaks language barriers, inspires students
This week's Golden Apple Award goes to Rachel Greenberg, a third-grade teacher at Asa Messer Elementary School in Providence.
Greenberg was nominated by a fellow teacher, Deborah Muther, along with students.
They wrote that Messer is never too busy to help and inspire them.
When students, including many who are new to America, say, "I can't do this," she says, "Yes, you can."
Several of her students come from many different countries and speak Spanish, English, Napali and K'iche'.
But there is no communication gap with their biggest advocate, Mrs. Greenberg.
"You can count on me like one, two, three, I'll be there,” Greenberg said during a lesson, also reminding them that through education, they will go far.
"She make us laugh a lot,” one student said. “We don't even know we are learning and then we look at the data and we learn so much.”
