WJAR is New England's NBC
From Sunrise to the Night Team, NBC 10 is No. 1 in all time periods in May
Southern New England’s News Leader, WJAR NBC 10, was once again the most-watched television news station in the region and ranks among the top television stations in the nation in the recently completed May ratings period.
WJAR NBC 10 beat all other competitors in the Providence/New Bedford market in the coveted persons 25-54 demographic in 10 out of 10 newscasts. WJAR NBC 10 also won 9 of 10 newscasts in household ratings. The powerful NBC 10 Sunrise newscast continues to be Southern New England’s top choice in the morning. More people watch NBC 10 Sunrise between 4:30-7:00 am than any other newscast.
WJAR also re-affirmed its position as New England’s NBC station. Head-to-head with NBC Boston, WJAR NBC 10 had more than double the households at 5:00pm and 6:00pm, despite the Boston market being more than four times the size of Providence/New Bedford.
“Every day, Southern New Englanders put their trust in us by ‘turning to 10.’ It’s our privilege to tell their stories,” said Scott Isaacs, News Director. “We thank them the best way we can, by digging into the issues that impact their lives.”
The May ratings period began with WJAR NBC 10 being honored with two Regional Edward R. Murrow awards for breaking news coverage and investigative reporting. “We place a premium on our investigative reporting," continued Isaacs. "That includes exposing new issues with how Rhode Island is using money meant for 911, and trash pick-up, as well as revealing why a submerged crane has remained an eyesore on the Providence waterfront for so long."
In addition, WJAR NBC 10 offered valuable and timely viewer information with Health Check 10 Reporter Barbara Morse Silva illustrating the dangers to children of brightly-colored adult medicines and cleaning products in ‘Health Check Kids: Pretty Poisons,’ and Consumer Advocate Emily Volz launched the ‘Spring Cleaning Club,’ a series geared toward helping viewers stay organized, share tips, and save money.
