Flood Watch remains in effect, colder temps bring icy concerns
A Flood Watch remains in effect, as heavy rain falls on Southern New England during the Friday evening commute.
Have you noticed the dramatic change in the snow cover in just the last day? Take a look at this 24 hour change from Coventry:
The melting snow has caused the rivers and streams to begin to rise rapidly Friday evening. They will continue to rise steadily overnight into the weekend as the heavy rain runs off.
This is the gauge from the Pawtuxet River Friday evening, notice the big jump in the gauge height in the late afternoon!
Another concern is for icy roads to develop during Saturday afternoon as temperatures drop sharply.
The cold air will wrap in from north to south Saturday, mostly around noontime through 3PM. Temperatures WILL get below freezing by 4pm for most areas so watch out for the possibility of icy roads as the standing water starts to freeze up!
